Room B9

We focus on student effort and quality of work.  Effort can be applied in many different areas throughout the day and through the school year. Because student effort is one of the most valuable resources we have in school, I wish to design lessons and activities that really utilize that resource wisely and judiciously.

As Ron Berger of EL Education (formerly Expeditionary Learning), says of a child's education,

"When a student finishes her school and goes on to her adult life, she will be judged for the rest of her life, not by standardized test scores but by two things: the quality of her character and the quality of her work."

In addtion to academic progress, I also emphasize these important areas:

- behavior/citizenship
- participation/team work/collaboration
- project craftsmanship
- quality project/assignment completion

We want to be ready to identify the effort of each student.  Every contribution to effort students in my class make will impact and guide the design of what our classroom will become.

Thank you for visting,
Mr. Sakamoto
