ABSENCES/TARDIES

Students need to bring a note to the teacher or parents can call the office as to the reason why a student was absent.  This is a state law.

  • When your child is absent, someone should come to get the assignments he/she missed so it can be completed at home.
  • If your child has a doctor or dentist appointment, please do not keep them out of school the whole day. Please bring them back to school after the appointment or pick them up at school when they need to go.
  • School starts at 8:20. Please make sure your child is here on time.

HOMEWORK POLICY

  • Your child will have homework assignments every day. A Student Planner has been given to your child to keep track of daily assignments.
  • Parents, please sign in the appropriate box in the Student Planner after checking your child’s assignments for completion. You do not need to correct his/her assignments.  Assignments will be corrected in class.
  • If your child tells you there is no homework, then you can tell your child to practice his/her multiplication times tables or have them read a book for half an hour. It is extremely important for all third graders to memorize the multiplication times tables at home.  Please be involved with your child to see that this gets done.
  • After completing their homework assignments, they should put all their assignments in their homework folder and books in their backpacks. This will avoid any problems the next day at school when they say, “I forgot it at home.”
  • Your child should not need your support at home for homework. However, you can assist them but please do not do the assignments for them.  Instead, make sure you have provided them with time and space to do the work.  At times, the student will need you to get supplies or materials for a special project, help them get started on an assignment, need someone to edit their writing, listen to a poem or speech they are preparing, or have you take them to the library for books to read or research to do.
  • All students have received explanations on how to do the assignments. No one is given work to do unless it has been taught or the teacher has told the students what to do.

**INCOMPLETE HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS:  it is your child’s responsibility to complete all homework assignments.  If your child does not do homework, does not bring their homework back to school on the due date or does not complete all assignments, then your child will need:

  • To complete the assignments during his/her recess time.
  • If their incomplete assignments are not done then the assignments carry through the next day.

 TESTING

  • When your child is caught cheating on a test, he/she will automatically receive a 1 and the parent will be notified on the same day.
  • Most tests will be sent home and require a parent signature. Please discuss or go over all tests with your child before signing.
  • Explanation of grades:

* 4 - Advanced (can do the work almost perfectly and does more than what is

          necessary)

* 3 - Proficient (can do the work)

* 2 - Partially Proficient (can do part of the work but does not fully understand)

* 1 - Non-Proficient (can not do the work and shows no understanding or just very

          little understanding)

COMMON CORE STANDARDS

  • This is required by the state.
  • All third graders must pass these standards. If they are not passing the standards, they will not be considered at grade level.
  • Instruction in the classroom is based on these standards. Every benchmark Test and the state Common Core Test will be given to see if the student has mastered the standards.

UNIFORMS

  • Uniforms are required to be worn daily at school.
  • Friday is Spirit Day. Only Bitely Bear t-shirts may be worn instead of uniforms.
  • Please put names on all articles of clothing especially sweaters and jackets.

EARTHQUAKE PACKETS

  • It is very important that your child has an earthquake packet of food in the classroom. This will be used in case of emergency when your child is required to stay at school.
  • Either you can buy an Earthquake Packet from the P.T.A or you can make one yourself. If you make your own, please be sure that the food will not spoil during the school year.  Use a Ziploc type bag and label it with the child’s name.

DISMISSAL

  • All third graders will be dismissed at the gate on the upper grade playground including those that need to pick up a younger sibling. The Kinder through 2nd graders should already be at the front entrance with their teachers waiting to be picked up.  Unless they go to Woodcraft Rangers or Gateway, they may go to their designated classes.

To promote the academic success of your child, it is important that he/she has the following:

  4. School supplies:
